One fateful day in 1939, John G Martin sat himself down in an LA bar, the Cock ’n’ Bull. He had bought the US rights to Smirnoff vodka but was struggling to sell it because vodka was not a popular spirit on the American market at the time. John sought a drink whilst lamenting his struggles and found by chance that bar owner Jack Martin was in a similar predicament, trying to shift the ginger beer he stocked.
Together that night, no doubt a few drinks in, they ingeniously solved all their problems with the invention of a deliciously blended vodka and ginger beer cocktail: the Moscow Mule.
A crisp vodka base, layered with pure lime juice and topped with a premium ginger beer results in an unexpectedly refreshing flavour profile. This perfect balance of tangy spice and citrus makes the Moscow Mule a classic all-rounder.
This easy-to-make cocktail proved so popular, it is single-handedly responsible for popularising vodka in the United States.
The Moscow Mule's refreshing, zesty profile with that character-defining hint of spice makes it a perfect match for anything light, citrusy or fiery.
Pair with delicious Asian salads, light fragrant curries or fresh seafood, and your friends will be hailing you a culinary genius.
