Pair And Sip: Your Ultimate Guide To Cocktail And Food Pairing - Espresso Martini

May 30, 2019

Espresso Martini, the ultimate after-dinner cocktail (though don't let us tell you what to do if you'd like one at lunchtime).

Originally named the vodka espresso, it was renamed in the '90s when Martinis were hip.

This iconic drink was created in 1983 in London by Dick Bradsell at the Soho Brasserie. The story goes that a well-known supermodel requested a drink that would wake her up and f**k her up. And voilà, that’s how the now-famous bittersweet pairing of vodka and coffee was first crafted.

At Cocktail Collective, we're all about sourcing the very best Kiwi-made ingredients wherever possible.

For our Cocktail Collective Espresso Martini Cocktail Box, we've gone the extra mile and teamed up with the expert coffee roasters at Altezano Brothers. They've developed a very special bold blend cold brew coffee specifically for Espresso Martinis and exclusively for us to maintain the same golden crema right through from the first to the tenth shot poured.

Couple this cold brew with a crisp vodka base and a vanilla liqueur, and you can confidently move beyond the two-dimensional flavour profile of a standard Espresso Martini, which relies only on vodka and coffee liqueur.

So, how do you like your Espresso Martini?

When pairing with food, think about what you would pair with a coffee. A rich indulgent dessert or for something lighter, a nutty biscotti to beautifully balance out those bold coffee flavours.

Here are a few treats to get you inspired:

Delicious and easy almond biscotti

Rich, moist chocolate cake

The most decadent sticky date pudding

It’s always handy to have a box on hand. Shelf-stable ingredients ready to mix, with easy-to-follow recipe cards, means you can organise your cocktails well in advance and be secure in the knowledge you're always prepared for any Espresso Martini emergencies.
